What to Expect

After you book a session, we will have a little consultation where we can discuss what kind of pictures you're looking to get. Are you wanting a bright, playful family session? An urban engagement shoot? Or a soft romantic session? Maybe you're not sure what you want yet, and that's okay. I'll ask you all kinds of questions like- What kind of feeling do you want your photos to portray? Where are you planning to hang these pictures? We'll talk about how to pick out just the right outfit, and I'll give you some great tips on how to coordinate your wardrobe.

The Great Outdoors

My favorite time for this is the evening as the sun falls behind the trees, but early morning sessions are also great (and young ones are happiest then). I try to stay away from mid day shoots because of the high sun and shadows that are cast on faces.

Urban Adventures

The urban sessions are becoming a lot more popular as clients are wanting something unique for their home. I like to look for color and texture and fun buildings.  Most of the time, I will have you meet us in one urban setting that has several different looks within walking distance from each other.

Home Sweet Home

When most people think about hiring a professional photographer, they don’t consider their home as the backdrop they are looking for.  But why not???   Beautiful portraits in the place you spend the most time as a family offers the most unique atmosphere.  We would suggest this only if you love the decor in your home, and it is free of clutter.  We often like to create activities such as hanging out on the couches, sitting around the piano, jumping on the trampoline, or even having a cookie making event in the kitchen.  Possibilities are endless–what does your family love to do at home together?

If you have a spot or theme in mind, please don’t hesitate to share!  I love discovering new places or trying new things.
For Teens and Couple sessions we do some location hopping to 3 different spots in close proximity to each other.
For families and young children, just one spot is best.
Newborns can either be done at my studio or in your own home depending on the look you are going for. Are you wanting studio shots with props and blankets or are you wanting a more photojournalistic/lifestyle approach that captures life with a new baby.

A word to Families…
Taking family pictures with young kids can be a bit of a headache, but try not to worry. :) Plan on letting me take over, and you just sit back and relax... and smile. :) And please don’t be embarrassed with less than 100% cooperation, I have 4 kids ages 5 and under. I'm sorta used to it! I'll always do my best to make your session FUN and enjoyable for everyone!
It is always great to offer incentive such as going out for ice cream after (a little bribery doesn’t hurt) I may take each child for an individual walk away from
everyone to have a one on one conversation and get those natural smiles.

Honestly, dads are often my toughest cases. ;) They might need a little incentive too! Sometime, I get the kids to tickle dad to crack that natural smile.

What should you expect?! To have fun!  To laugh, to smile, just relax and let me do the work.
